The data isn’t that important, but it will be a pain if I did lose it. Or should I be looking into redoing the whole thing?. Is there something I can install in OMV through the terminal and have it run like once a month or something? I know things like trueNAS can deal with bit rod for you, but how can I deal with it in my setup? It’s been running for a few months now and so far it’s been pretty great, BUT… I did forget about bit rot until Wendell mentioned it in the diskless Raspberry Pi video. In OMV I then use RSync to essentially copy the data from one 4Tb drive to the other. ![]() ![]() The idea here is, if something were to go wrong or I mess something up to the point where I need to redo the setup, I can just unplug the drives and plug them back in without any fuss.īoth drives are just normal ext4 and are passed directly to OMV. Those aren’t really important, it’s the OpenMediaVault part that is.īecause of my lack of knowledge, experience, and budget, I wanted my 2x4Tb drives to be as dumb as possible. I then have a Mint VM for stuff and a windows VM for some other stuff. I’m using OpenMediaVault to manage the drives, shares, and backup. I’ve never had a “real” server as such and although I am aware of bit rot, it’s never been something I had to worry about. ![]() I did think about posting this in the small linux thread, but I’m probably going to have a few followup questions and I think having the info in one thread might be good for anyone else looking for the same or similar info.Ī few months ago I setup my first real Linux system using proxmox.
